About

Babay is an artist with a transcultural biography, born in the territory of the former USSR. At different stages of her life, she lived in the Russian Far East, in Primorsky Krai and on Kunashir Island, as well as in Georgia and Ukraine, before moving to Italy. Today, she lives and works between Italy and Switzerland.

From childhood, her imagination was shaped by a strong sensorial and visual sensitivity, nourished both by her family environment and by the natural and narrative world in which she grew up. Her father was a painter, and her education in art and music began early, later continuing at the State Conservatory of Music in Verona.

An important part of her formation derives from her contact with folk tales, archaic narratives, nearly untouched landscapes, and literary works that contributed to the development of a visual language in which archetypal figures, instinctive states, and elements of the fantastic intertwine.

For fifteen years, she was professionally involved in sport. This experience deeply shaped her understanding of the body as a site of concentration, memory, and extreme effort, as well as her perception of discipline as a space of transformation. In her artistic practice, this dimension also finds expression in the recurring image of the tiger, a figure that condenses energy, control, vulnerability, and strength.

Babay currently works primarily with ceramic sculpture and installation. Among her most significant recent series are Fortune Street, dedicated to fairy-tale toads and presented in Italy, and Il Risveglio di una Tigre, shown in the United Arab Emirates. Her works are held in private collections in Italy, the UAE, and Switzerland.
